Hand Stripping

Hand stripping is a traditional method of dog grooming and is usually used on terriers and spaniels. This method of grooming helps to maintain a healthy coat and skin, as well as preserving the rich colour of the dog’s fur. It also helps to repel dirt, dust and provide waterproof properties.

Hand stripping is a process where we remove the harsher guard hairs from the root leaving the softer undercoat. Providing it is carried out correctly and when your dog's coat is in the correct growth stage, this process is not painful for your dog. Not all dogs need to be hand stripped and we will always do a full assessment of your dog's coat before carrying out this grooming process.

You can see in this photo the difference between the side we have stripped and the side we have not.
